Really special - and worth waiting 11 months for!

Maibock isn’t that easy to find in Germany, let alone here in the UK, so I was really excited to see that The Sausage Man had managed to get some from not just any old German brewery, but one of the most highly regarded – Brauerei Engel of Crailsheim. I immediately asked my wife for a case for my May birthday, and it arrived in super-quick time – well before my own celebration.
As I write, the rest are stored away in a cool, dark place, but I did try one, purely for the purpose of this review.
It is absolutely lovely! If you usually shy away from a beer that’s 7.2%, then in this case it’s your loss. It has a very slightly smoky, nutty flavour, yet is deceptively light tasting for that strength. And as befits a beer for the spring season, it has underlying floral tones which really suit the time of year at which it’s meant to be drunk.
If you’re lucky enough to get hold of this Maibock, you’ll love it. If not, make a note on your calendar for when it comes around next time!

  2. Really good

The taste took me back to the beers I have had in somewhere like the Augustiner Brau Stubel in Salzburg. Its a typical Bock beer, but lighter than most I have tasted. Really easy to drink, but could get messy as it’s stronger than normal beers. Very very nice, will try and get some more before they all go. Great job Sausageman.
