Leberkäse – also known as German Meatloaf – is a delicious traditional German dish that is excellent in a bun, on a bed of sauerkraut or with a side of vegetables. This mouth-watering sliced meatloaf is made with a mixture of finely ground pork and beef and flavoured subtly, leaving the natural and rich flavour of the meat to shine through. Whether you want your Leberkäse German meatloaf as the main dish, a side or as a snack on the go in a bun, you won’t be disappointed.
Leberkäse literally translates to “Liver Cheese’, however, this unusual pairing of ingredients doesn’t feature anywhere in the dish – luckily! Leberkäse is said to have been invented in 1776 and the name has lost its initial meaning over the centuries. Leberkäse can be sliced and put into sandwiches, a bun or could even be the centrepiece of a Germany-inspired feast. Some forms of Leberkäse do feature cheese running through the middle, but we keep our German meatloaf traditional, simple and most of all, delicious!
Leberkäse from The Sausage Man arrives at your door frozen. Simply defrost and either cook in a pan with butter or BBQ for best results.
