Cooking and Serving Our Delicious Sour Roast Beef

Four slices of German marinated beef in a red wine sauce, with the sweet and sour Swabian flavour combination that’s famous across Germany.

Sauerbraten

Known as “Sauerbraten” in Germany, meaning “Sour Roast”, this dish of heavily marinated beef is a dish of huge renown. The rich flavour of the roasted pickled beef has to be tasted to be believed, and is complimented by the sweetness of the red wine sauce. This dish makes for a substantial meal for two with accompanying sides.

Great with Roast Potatoes

Our Sauerbraten goes fantastically with roast potatoes, but would also work well with rice, Bratkartoffeln or Spätzle. We also recommend a side of Rotkohl (red cabbage) on the side, as well as bread rolls for mopping up the red wine gravy sauce. Choose a selection of sides and enjoy this gorgeous pickled beef as a substantial meal for two!

Heat Up in Minutes

The Sauerbraten comes from The Sausage Man frozen, and is precooked for rapid reheating. A few minutes in the pan after defrosting and it’s ready to serve. You can also heat this dish in the oven or microwave as well. Our German marinated beef is quick to cook and amazingly flavourful, giving you the best dining experience even when cooking in a rush.

Butcher’s Kitchen Beef

As with the other premade meals in our range, our German marinated beef is made by master butchers by hand. From field to kitchen, the beef used is all sourced locally in Germany – as are all other ingredients where possible.

Authentic Family Recipes from Germany

Our German marinated beef is made using the original family recipes of traditional German butchers, making our Swabian sauerbraten meals exactly as they should be. We stock speciality dishes from the Swabian Alps to Lake Constance, and the Black Forest to Bavaria, with more precooked meals coming soon! ”

Sauerbraten is one of Germany’s national dishes but I’d never tried it before now. My word, it is delicious, the tangyness of the marinated beef contrasting with the sweetness of the sauce. Gorgeous. I paired it with mashed root veg to soak up the sauce and rotkohl. And a glass of Paulaner weissbier!
