Schweinshaxe – Roasted Pork Knuckle – is an Oktoberfest staple that is found across the beer halls of Bavaria and throughout the world-famous folk festival. This big hunk of meat is traditionally served with vegetables, sauerkraut and other classic German sides and is a classically smokey dish for those who have a love of German cuisine.

Try our delicious German pork Knuckle

Known in the UK as Ham Hock, German pork knuckle is not brined and it usually served roasted and on the bone. This process gives it a more smokey flavour; one that’s deep, rich and typical of German food. If you’ve been looking for the authentic taste of Oktoberfest and Bavarian cuisine more generally, German roast pork knuckle is a must-try for something slightly different.

Roast pork knuckle: an authentic Oktoberfest classic

Oktoberfest has spread all across the world from its beginnings in Munich – luckily for us! With that in mind, anyone who has been to an Oktoberfest-inspired event in the UK may have tried – and enjoyed – this dish already. If you enjoyed your first taste of Schweinshaxe at your local Oktoberfest event, then you’re in luck! The Sausage Man has been supplying German pork knuckle to event organisers in the UK for more than 15 years. We source our meat directly from German Master Butchers, so you can be sure that you’ll get the same great taste at home as you did when you tried it at a local Oktoberfest event.

Our German roast pork knuckle is easy to prepare!

This tasty Bavarian classic comes from The Sausage Man precooked for your convenience, so all you need to do is reheat it and serve. We like our German Pork Knuckle on a bed of traditional Schlachtekraut (German Butcher’s Cabbage), and a side of Bratkartoffeln (German Fried Potatoes).

How to cook and store roast pork knuckle

Cooking instructions

The Pork Knuckles are fully cooked and seasoned.

For best result: pre heat the oven to about 220 degrees and place product in a roasting dish, cook for about 40 to 45 minutes.

Please note that because this is an “on the bone” product, the meat around the bone can remain quite pink even after cooking. It is perfectly safe to eat it this way but, if you would prefer it more well done at the centre, you can cook it for another 30 minutes.

Keep turning the pork knuckle occasionally and in the last 15 min turn skin side up to achieve a crispy crackling on the skin.

Shelf life

When goods are received, please store in freezer immediately and defrost the items before using. Once defrosted, keep the items chilled, if unopened use with 14 days. Once opened, use the products within a few days.

The product is 100% pre-cooked, just heat and serve or even eat cold. Risk free.
