Gourmet Bratwurst Hotdogs

Ingredients

  • 325 g tomato puree
  • 2 onions
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 100 ml water
  • ½ tsp ground coriander
  • salt and pepper
  • 6 Bratwursts from The Sausage Man ™
  • 6 buns
  • 18 strips of bacon
  • 1 spring onion
  • Ketchup and Mustard
  • Sauerkraut

Instructions

  • Defrost 6 Bratwurst sausages while you prepare the onion sauce.
  • Preheat the oven to 250 °C on grill.
  • Dice the onions and sear them in a pan with a little bit of oil. Once the onions have become translucent (you can see through) add the tomato puree, 100 ml water, the coriander, bay leaf, salt and pepper. Let them simmer for 15 minutes, then set aside.
  • While the sauce is cooking, wrap the sausages in bacon strips and place them on a pan lined with tin foil. We use around 3 strips per hot dog.
  • Put the sausages on the top rack of the oven and let them cook for 15 minutes, keeping an eye on them and turning them over half-way through.
  • Slice the buns and the spring onion. Start assembling the hot dogs by scooping 2 tablespoons of onion sauce on the buns, adding the bacon wrapped sausages, sauerkraut, other toppings of choice (i.e. pickled vegetables, salad) and spring onion.
  • We recommend serving it with a cold glass of beer or another refreshing drink.
